So who liked the guy from VA, That sang Elliotts song the way Donnie Hathaway sang it. LOL.....I called B right when he was singing it was hilaroius to bad B missed it.

donnysgirl - January 25, 2007 03:03 AM (GMT)
You know I wasn't feeling it AT ALL. I do like him, but leave my E-baby's song alone unless you are going to kill it. He was pretty easy on the eyes and had the Justin thing going on

realitymom - January 25, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
He was decent, but he definately lacked the SOUL & PASSION that Elliott emoted singing that song. I was surprised Elliott wasn't mentioned! LORD knows, he immediately came to my mind when the fella said he was singin 'A Song for You'.

chattycb - January 25, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
Nope, he left me cold. What a big old copycat-- green tee, from VA and then he sings "A Song For You"? Me no likey.

noira - January 25, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
I wasn't impressed, first he didn't even near have Elliott's chops, and he was too boybandish for me.
Left me cold

I agree.

I saw the guy that sang Elliott's song and was surprised that he was wearing the green shirt. Defiintely trying to copy Elliott, but nowhere the talent of Elliott. Not sure he will get too much further.

wowhesgood - January 25, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
Yea, boy from VA, green t-shirt, really short hair, stubbly beard, singing A Song for You, mentioning Donny Hathaway...I told my hubby he was an Elliott-wannabe. He was ok, but nothing, nothing, nothing compared to Elliott. I was disgusted when the judge's said how good his voice was and Simon said he thought he'd be one to watch or some such thing. UGH!

As happy as I am now that Elliott didn't win, it ticks me off when the copy-cats get so much praise. Although, I just watched the AI performances Laclos made available today and I'm still convinced that deep down the judge's saw Elliott's talent and loved him...

I just keep reminding myself of what Taylor has had to sing and that Elliott has kept control of his product!

PDXJon - January 25, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
Couldn't compare him to Elliott whatsoever. Definitely had a Justin Timberlake vibe.

MistyluvsE - January 25, 2007 06:14 AM (GMT)
i was watcnihg with my brother and i was like.. well hes ok but no Elliott.. and my brother was like what? and i told him that E had sang that song in his audition and he told me he was worried that i knew that and that i was obsessed LOL :rotfl:

Anyways, I thought he was kinda boy bandish.. But the one guy that came back after he left last year was my 2nd favorits after the auditions last year so we will see how he does:D

sherwood - January 25, 2007 06:32 AM (GMT)

I just finished fast forwarding through tonight’s programme and absolutely loved it. Really, I absolutely loved it. Really, really I did!!!

Simon was chewing on his pencil/pen so hard I thought he might be going into convulsions.

Randy looked totally embarrassed; he must have been thinking how deep should I dig a hole to hide my girth.

Paula looked as if she just won the lottery, like she was loading her arsenal to torture Simon in the future.

The guest judge didn’t appear to have a clue about the history of AI, or if she did she showed incredible class by appearing ignorant. Good on her!!!

Poor Chris he has a good voice, and good looks. I hope he wises up in Hollywood and shows some unique talent, and not that of a copycat. No one can be Elliott. Elliott owns the patent.

VotedElliott2hrs - January 25, 2007 07:21 AM (GMT)
i could barely listen to it. when he said what he was going to sing, i serously paused it, and too a moment to prepare. the guy DOES have a good voice. but needless to say not even close to elliott.

fabb - January 25, 2007 07:57 AM (GMT)
VFTW's recap about this audition pretty much implies EY's ownership of ASFY...heh.

QUOTE (VoteForTheWorst.com)
Is the next person auditioning.. Justin Timberlake? No. He looks nothing like Justin Timberlake. Yet the show keeps saying he does. Now I’m not going to complain, because Chris Richardson is semi attractive, and the show seems to be allergic to attractive guys (none ever make it to the finals), but why make a comparison that isn't even remotely close. Chris sings “A Song for You”, Elliott Yamin’s signature piece from last year. He makes it through and Simon predicts that Chris will surprise them. I'm really doubting it.

lisas3 - January 25, 2007 07:58 AM (GMT)
Phew. I thought that I was having a stroke.

Right, so glad that it was not just in my head that I saw the Elliott wannabee.

Amunet - January 25, 2007 09:30 AM (GMT)
I thought he was alright, but as others have said... he was NO Elliott!
The guy could sing, but lacked the heart and soul Elliott puts into that song.
I didn't even notice them saying he was from VA.... didn't even notice the green shirt either!.. Good grief.. what a copycat

Outofmymind - January 25, 2007 01:57 PM (GMT)
Anyone with a fairly good voice could probably sing this song. But Elliott OWNS IT.

There is a difference from singing a song cause you can, and sing a song cause you need to, cause it expresses your inner thoughts and feelings.

Singers are not like empty cymbals making a noise. Singers are humans, with flesh and blood, and heart and feelings. And that should show when they are singing. Or else they can't convince anyone. They leave everyone cold. Just like this guy did. Totally wrong song choice...

et4elliott - January 25, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
He was good but not nearly as good as Elliott! Made me miss Elliott even more!

Soccerma - January 25, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
I didn't think he sang it with enough soul and passion. That is one song that requires it or it's not gonna work. He had a nice voice but not for a soulful song like that.

BTW why did they keep saying they were in NYC? They weren't. They were in East Rutherford, NJ. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

My sentiments exactly! Didn't like him either.

lex - January 25, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
I thought it was cute that he was an Elliott wannabe; clearly the boy has taste. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't have noticed him at all.

The thing that really got me was that they said he looked like Timberlake and sounded like Timberlake, then they followed that by saying how special he was. How special can he be if he's so similar to an existing pop artist? Perhaps I don't understand the meaning of the word "special".

Did I imagine it or did they say they were at the Chelsea Piers?
If they were, then they were in Manhattan.
It was 2 days, so maybe they were in both places?

chloewannabee - January 25, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
Yea soccerma, what's with the New York????.East Rutherford is in New Jersey.
Close, but no cigar!
Anyway, I thought the kid was just "aight", but couldn't even hold a candle to Elliott. Not by a longshot. I really couldn't fathom the collective reactions to him. They were strangely positive, for some strange reason. I heard better, that they totally trashed.
Anyway, I only watched snippets, I can't take a steady dose of it.

Christopher Richardson is our Elliot Yamin of the year. He's from Virginia, and he's singing a Donny Hathaway version of a song. Is he half-deaf and diabetic, too? No, but Randy thinks he looks and sounds a little like Justin Timberlake, so send him on to Hollywood, dawg!

Eyess2NKiss - January 25, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
He sang well and probably was hoping as well as Elliott Yamin! All these Elliott Yamin followers are coming out of the woodwork, huh?!? NOBODY LIKE ELLIOTT NOR WILL ANYONE COME CLOSE TO HIM!!
So PROTECTIVE I am!!

Eyess2NKiss - January 25, 2007 06:29 PM (GMT)
I was just thinking as I saw him, that Elliott's gonna have a massive following of wannabe's! Seems to me some of these people are so convinced they can come out of nowhere and get "taught" to sing like an American Idol!! What's with these people??

nicky1986 - January 25, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
he sounded good...but ASFY is now Elliott's song! noone sing it better than him!

et4elliott - January 25, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
He was one of my faves - although there isn't much to pick from so far! But can't compare to Elliott!

VirginiaNana - January 25, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
I thought he had an o.k. voice and was fairly nice looking, but his copycat style left me laughing. Maybe he was hoping that the people in Virginia and Elliott fans would support him, but that's not happening with me. Noone will ever come close to comparing with Elliott's version of "A Song for You"! Too bad that songs can't be "retired" when they are perfected.

DoxieChickLuvsE - January 25, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
Don't be so hard on him! REmember "the most sincerest form of flattery is imitation".

In other words we don't try to copy someone we don't think is REALLY good.

EisaClassAct - January 25, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
:woohoo: Wow! Our boy E is already a pioneer in the music industry. People on AI are emulating him? He will be the stuff of legends!!!! We are SO proud of you Elliott. P.S. Get some sleep and R&R.

They were either at Continental Arena or Giant Stadium. Both are in East Rutherford, NJ. I would bet my house that they were not at Chelsea Piers.

catielyn - January 25, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
You can hear him again at Rickey.org. I did this morning and I'm not nearly as impressed the second time hearing it.

Elliott owns that song and Christopher is a decent singer, but no where near Elliott.

mominny - January 25, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
He did not sound like Elliott .....but I want to see where this guy goes. He seemed awfully nervous!

I think it will be fun to watch him!

GypsyNFla - January 25, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
He was just okay to me. I see more talent in a few others than him. So far I like Sundance Head, Jordan Sparks, Jenry, Jory Steinberg and a couple others.

I'm surprised the judges gave no kudos to Elliott when someone else does "his" song. Ahh well.

Eyess2NKiss - January 25, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
^^^ THEY (AI) don't want to recognize the FACT they let go of such great talent as Elliott!!

ElliottCat101 - January 25, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
hah the moment they said he was from VA I was like "ELLIOTT!!". The guy was even wearing a green shirt for goodness sake!

But he didn't sound at all like Elliott.... But then again, who does?

It might've been edited out. I know the judges have given Elliott credit for that very same thing in the past. The judges said in an interview that many people auditioned with Donny Hathaway songs and that they have no doubt that Elliott is responsible for that! :)

NOPE not one word and i was sitting there thinking WHAT? They are talking about JUSTIN TIMBErLAKE and not one MENTION of ELLIOTT? I was just hoping for E to get a second or two of mention but NOTHING/NADA/ZIP!

LadyB - January 25, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
Nobody can sing that song like Elliott does!! I mean the guy is an ok singer, but he is no where near Elliott's level.
