Title: Old School Meets New School
Description: The evolution of promotion

If we can get away from all the speculation for a bit which is kind of fun or I wouldn't be checking this site every day. I love the fact that Elliott's sound is so old school, part Frank,(Sinatra) part Bobby (Darin) for you youngsters. Almost a reencarnation of all that was cool even before the term rock and roll was coined, and used this new method of promotion and said screw the premise of having to sound like this or that person, Its just a jazz club with thirty million watching on tv. I don't expect much response from this, but think about it at least. That is what is Freakin awesome to me about our E!

I actually get what you are talking about. Elliott is very old school with complete understanding of what is modern. I've always thought he was born after his time - some of the phrases he has used in interviews are ones my parents (of the Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin era) used. I don't think he even wants to be Donny Hathaway -he just wants to bring the same sensibility to the same kind of music of the soul. There are artists that he admires - but he has put his career on the line so that his music will be pure Elliott and nothing else.

That kind of style is not marketable anymore I guess. Iv'e been a fan of blues and jazz for thirty plus years now. People like Harry Connick jr and Brian Setzer still make a good living keeping it alive. Elliott will bring that sound to a new generation and watch for grammy nods next year! Thats in my perfect world.

I love what you're saying about Elliott.

Awesome post and welcome. E reminded me a little of the hip old schoolers and also those in the early days of rock like Dion and others. He has such a confident sound, even if he didn't have a confident performance at first. He seems to want to bring a sophisticated artistry back into music. Hallelujah! Though I grew up in the rock/pop era I fell in love with earlier jazz/romantic era artists as I got older and listened more broadly. I've been longing for an artist like Elliott to come along, fuse the old with the new R&B/hiphop/neosoul/pop and move the new music in a better direction, a better overall sound.

Hi hon and welcome to the E-Train!! I absolutely agree and I have thought from the beginning that E could never be a "sell out." I believe that he would have rathered continued touring local jazz clubs etc, doing what HE loves, what he respects, and what he does best, before selling out to some huge company to give them what THEY want. It is about time that someone finally realized that what WE want, is what HE DOES so well...singing, like Elliott Yamin. He is an old soul in a young man's body, with a voice from the heaven's and a heart of gold. I know I will absolutely love and respect any music that he puts out, just knowing that it is HIS blood, sweat and tears behind it. Plain and simple, he is the REAL DEAL, and there ain't NOTHING like the real thing baby!!!
xxoo

Before I bed down for the night all I can say is the Right direction, and connections E is a grammy winner. His current arrangement and what he is about to release might only get the attention of the person who will get him there. I think it is safe to say however he can quit his day job with his first release. Rock on people!!!

Great post. Welcome.
I love Elliott's respect for music of great musical artists of the past. He is great at bringing the feel of what the original artist intended when the music was written.
I don't think that Elliott will have only that type of music on his CD. He loves many styles of music and can sing them well.
During a radio interview, Elliott's phone rang with a ring tone. One DJ asked what song it was, Elliott said that it was "Gimme That" by Chris Brown. Once again, Elliott loves all kinds of music so don't be surprised if more modern music is on his CD as well.
