Title: Amazon.com Tags
Description: How to guide

Hope that this helps!
TAGS
What is a tag? Think of a tag as a keyword or category label. Tags can both help you find items on the Amazon site as well as provide an easy way for you to "remember" and classify items for later recall.
So how can I use tags?
There are many ways to use tags. Here are some examples:
* Find other items with similar qualities: Are you a photography enthusiast? Find a photography book that you love and tag it with the category "photography book." Click on the "photography book" tag you created and see other items that were tagged similarly. Because people's tags are (by default) visible to others, a great effect of tagging is that you can navigate among items through other people's tags. Add a tag and check out what other items people have tagged as "robot" or "gardening" or "chocolate." Also, you can assign as many tags as you wish to each product, so tag away!
* Organize your collection or items of interest: Tag items you've purchased in the past and organize your collection in any way you wish. Don't like the way Amazon has organized its science fiction or cookbooks? Tag the items you care about with the categories that matter to you.
* Remember items you are considering for purchase: If you are planning to buy a digital camera, you might tag several makes and models so that you can look at them side by side, organized the way you wish.
* Search Tags: You can search for products with a given tag from any product detail page or from any tag page.
* Get recommendations based on items you've tagged: Items you tag will be used as sources from which to make personalized recommendations. Go to the Your Store area and select from your tags under the "Recommendations by Your Tags" section. All items you've marked with the tag you select from here will be used as the basis for these recommendations.
Where can I go to see the items I've tagged?
Click on "Your Amazon.com" through the tab at the top of the site. Next click "Your Profile" in the navigation bar. Scroll down the page and you'll see sections called "Your Tags" and "Products You Tagged."
Can everyone see my tags?
By default, if you have at least one purchase at Amazon, everyone can see your tags. If you don't have a purchase yet, your tags will not be publicly visible. However, as soon as you buy something and add a new tag, all your tags will become public. Your tags will help others find interesting products, and likewise you can see how other customers have tagged products. As you navigate using tags, you will find more and more interesting products, as collectively organized by other Amazon customers.
What if I don't want others to see my tags?
You can make your tags private if you want. Just go to Your Profile page, find the Your Tags area, and click on Manage Your Tags. From there you can edit and delete tags as well as choose whether they are public or private.
How can I edit or remove a tag?
When you are on a product page, you can click on Edit to edit or remove a tag you created. Or, go to Your Profile page, scroll to the Your Tags area, and click on Manage Your Tags. From there you can edit and delete tags.

Elliott is only tagged to 13 items now. It would be nice to see him be tagged with musicians that were not in American Idol.
Customer Tags Results for Products Tagged: "Elliott Yamin" Narrow Your Results Tags Found elliott yamin (13) elliott yamin is amazing (1) Showing 1-10 of 13 Results Product image |
Nancy, could you please explain what being tagged with 13 items means. I've seen him listed under all the tags we've given w/ various artists. And can you tell me where to find this information?
We need more tags from the group, the more tags they get the further up they are seen in the list. For example Jazz 1 tag got him on page 64.
Come on everyone go to Amazon and tag away :)
Thanks

Think of a tag as a keyword or category label. Tags can both help you find items on the Amazon site as well as provide an easy way for you to "remember" and classify items for later recall. When you tag Elliott to someone or something his name shows up when looking for another item. You can even tag him to a camera! I took pictures of E with this, etc. It's just a way to get his name all over Amazon. Hope this helps. It is on your main Amazon page about half way down. Add a tag, hit enter, and keep adding more tags!

Nancy,
My specific question was about the 13 tags? Does this mean he is tagged with items and not catagories? Like you said, a camera? :)
And if I buy from amazon a kitchen utensil along with another purchase of his CD, I wonder if it will get paired with... people that bought this CD also bought a kitchen utensil :rotfl: . I woke up feeling a bit silly :).

If anyone is inclined to update their Amazon "tags" we could use seven more Amazon members/Etrainers to tag "Chris Daughtry."
Thanks guys!

I just tagged some more. You're it. I'm just curious. Everytime I click on the Amazon.com link here on the E-Train, it comes up with my name on it. Does my name come up for everyone? Or is it magic and knows who I am? :)

Whoa, you scared me for a second there.
Yes, it must "know" who we are, because only my account info is visible.

Interesting read about Movers and Shakers on Amazon.com
http://ams16.livejournal.com/77815.htmlAmazon's math
From their Movers and Shakers page:
The Movers & Shakers index identifies, by category, the biggest gainers in sales rank at Amazon.com in the past 24 hours. For example, suppose a music item has a sales rank of 10 today, but was ranked as low as 30 yesterday. Its Movers & Shakers increase would be 200 percent.
I never knew that you could use percentages on ordinal numbers.
