Description: Top E-Friendly Markets
movin2thabeet - May 23, 2006 03:17 AM (GMT)
CONTACT INFO FOR THE TOP E-FRIENDLY RADIO, SATELLITE AND INTERNET STATIONSThis is the place to come for information to help you target your Radio Requests for Elliott Yamin's music. You'll find a list of the top 40+ Radio Markets in the country with only those high-ranked stations in each city most likely to play Elliott's music. First, the Top 10 Markets in the Country - the most critical ones for Billboard ranking. Then, the complete list of the top stations in the country: 1. In alphabetical order by State and City (City's overall ranking in parentheses), and 2. Stations ranked in order by audience size/popularity. These rankings were compiled from the Arbitron ratings.
You'll see a list of the formats that are the most likely to play Elliott's music with the associated codes provided. You'll also find a list of Satellite Stations with the most likely Elliott-friendly programs as well as recommended Internet Stations. I've also included some suggestions for successful radio requesting. Happy Requesting!
SUGGESTIONS ON RADIO REQUESTING:1. All stations listed here have formats that are potentials for playing Elliott's music.
CHR-P (Top 40) requests are still needed for WFY. The most important requests for WFY now are at
AC,
HAC,
CHR-R (Rhythmic) and
RAC formats. Some stations will wait to play artists until they have been at the top of the format's charts for months so be patient with results. The stronger the sales are, the more stations will be inclined to play Elliott's music.
2. Request by phone as much as possible, preferably to a DJ. The other options are E-Requests (on many station's websites), E-mail or often, Texting. If there are phone lines available, they are listed. Contact Request lines, DJ's or Program Directors. It's recommended that you stay brief, keep the fandom in check, and make it clear that you are a listener to their station.
3. All large stations receive music through their distribution channels so they should have the recordings. Smaller stations like college and independent stations might benefit from an iTunes gift. Check first.
4. On frequency. Flooding with requests is
NOT recommended. I've heard directly from Program Directors and others that a bombardment of e-mails or calls actually has a detrimental effect. It is perceived as the result of a fan site gone wild and not an indication of the desires of their listening audience. The best advice here is to exercise moderation. Mix it up - call different DJs and stations.
5. Use your best judgment on whether to contact stations outside your listening area. If the station offers streaming, and you listen, even briefly, you are just as valid a listener as those who are local. To help make that decision, I've included codes that let you know if the station can be streamed via the internet so anyone can listen, no matter where you live.

Hey... Another Elliott group got an email from a dj that said not to request E if you aren't in their listening area because all it does is annoy them and turn them off the artist.. So I would say, stick to your own listening area!! Otherwise, it is like spam to them and they will eventually block Elliott!

These are some radio stations I think E will get played on, I'm really confident on the AUC stations. I know these aren't in the Top 20 radio stations list, but I just thought to add these. :)

Well, I contacted all the Detroit stations I could get to on the internet (except 95.5). Contacted both program directors and selected DJs. I'll follow up if I hear anything back . . .
ETA: Have heard back from one station already, an AC one. It happened to be an Assistant Program Director. I think it's absolutely a good idea for us to contact program directors at this point. They seem to be a more direct path to determining whether a single gets added to a station's rotation.

Hi,
I was wondering if y'all are going to be playing
Elliott Yamin's new single this week? (I think it's
out now.) It's called "Movin On," and it's got a nice
sound to it.
Keep up the good work!

Great to have you on board, Nancy. We'll check that record out when it's released.

THanks Elliottfan I'm from that area. I noticed that 106.1, Q102, and Power 99, maybe one other all have very similar web pages. I'm thinking they are affiliated.
But I can't find where to request online??? Think I had to sign up for some sort of poll, in order to get Q102's email address and request. Help appreciated.

Some stations prefer to receive requests by phone so try calling in your requests.
Also Program Directors and DJ's are people you can e-mail to let them know you'd like to hear Elliott's music. Their contact info is usually under tab/headings such as 'Contact Us' or 'Staff''.
Hope this helps.

I'm glad someone mentioned the fact that you should
keep your radio requests to your listening area.
I have said this before, and will say it again: radio stations DO NOT
like being contacted by people outside their listening areas.
Radio stations serve their local markets.
They CAN tell if you are not in their vicinity. Most stations have a caller I.D. system, and any e-mail requests are traceable by your IP and other information (they will know if your IP is local or not).
While you may mean well, you can do more harm than good. The Claymates did this, and you'll note Mr. Aiken is no longer active on any real radio format.
Many artists have now specifically asked fans ONLY to call local radio. Example: On his website, Mark Broussard (one of Elliott's MySpace friends) specifically asks his fans: "Please call only the stations in your local area. Thank the DJ's too for their stations support of Marc!"
XM and Sirius are national. If you want to promote outside your area, they are good options.
movin2thabeet - February 14, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
To shed more light on the controversy surrounding the issue of calling outside your listening area, I've added some information at the top of this thread which bears repeating here:
5. Use your best judgment on whether to contact stations outside your listening area. Some people feel that these types of requests can negatively influence a station. To help make that decision, I've included codes that let you know if the station can be streamed via the internet so anyone can listen, no matter where you live.
In my opinion, this issue isn't black and white with the addition of free live internet streaming. For example, as a West Coaster, I could still be a regular listener to a NYC station. Before the prevalence of web streaming on most radio stations, this issue was less murky. That is why I went to the trouble of checking each website on the list to see which stations had live streaming and if you needed to be a member to stream. There are codes provided here to identify these stations.
Again, use your best judgement and consider using moderation in all your requesting so we can show serious listening audience interest versus rabid fan behavior.

Good pts movin2thebeat and OG. I just can't see the comparison in music and voice between E and Clay.
Just how many are really requesting anyway? By the posts it doesn't look like much.

It's kind of hard to request until we know a song is available to radio - which we are not really sure about yet. At this point, we don't know when or even which song is available. Still don't know how Lite98 gets to play it, except they play anything they want where Elliott's concerned....
ohioguy45780 - February 15, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
There's no loss in requesting "Movin' On".
Just say you heard it on the Internet and would like to hear it again...and that way, when they *DO* get Elliott's "real" single, they are MORE LIKELY to play it because they've had requests for him BEFORE.
It's actually brilliant when you think about it. Get the name Yamin in their heads.....

This is like a TV Guide for Radio stations. You can search stations and find out which DJ is on the air at any given time. You can search by location in both the US and outside of the US:

alienhamster - February 16, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Great stuff, LC!
I wish we had some idea of how many folks are actually sending in requests right now (other than at UUrbu). I don't get the feeling it's all that many at this point.
Can more folks speak up please? Has no one besides a couple of us heard back from any stations?
ladycentaur - February 16, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
I just sent in a request to WXLO and am listening online. I got the info from the radiotime.com site
They have links to websites and you can find shows and DJ contact info. It's the best radio info site I've seen yet. I would strongly suggest that people use it. It's seriously as close to a TV Guide for Radio you can get. It's very cool!

Are people consulting this thread? It's such a useful resource.
I went ahead and wrote to the program directors at the two biggest pop/urban stations in Detroit. I figure I'll aim for them first and then go to the AC stations next.
Do we think non-urban AC will take to "Wait for You"?
britrk66 - March 4, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
I just sent an email this morning to the programming director at 106.5 the Beat (WBTJ-FM) here in Richmond, VA. This is strictly hip-hop and r&b/soul music played on this station. Hopefully, I will receive a reply from him.
movin2thabeet - March 5, 2007 07:28 AM (GMT)
I just updated the list a little with the following changes:
CHR-P = Top 40. If we want to target the Top 40 stations as some suggest for 'Wait for You', you'll want to contact the formats listed as CHR.
Sirius changes: Added Sirius Love (Ch. 3). Given that E's new songs are very love oriented, I think this makes sense. I also took out #28 channel as it's more hard edged r&b than Elliott's sound.
XM changes: Added The Heart (Ch. 23) and XM Hitlist (Ch. 30) to reflect E's new sounds.
movin2thabeet - March 7, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
OK, I did a full re-working of the list now. I think it's way easier to find information. All comments are very much welcome and invited.
> The list is now organized by State and City so people can more easily find information.
> There are a bunch of new stations added so all the top 40+ stations are now included.
> I've highlighted and featured the Top 10 stations in the country because these stations are essential to getting Elliott top ranking on the Billboards which will in turn allow more airplay across the country.
> The CHR format is now broken down into CHR-P (Top 40) and CHR-R (R&B, Hip Hop).
> I've added recommendations for initial contact. Suggestions are to start with CHR-P first, with AC, HAC, UAC next.
There is a surprisingly large range of music played from station to station within the same format. For example some stations with CHR-R format are really hard-edged rap and others more r&b and soul.
The whole purpose of this list is: 1. to focus on the top stations in the country, and 2. to screen stations so that only E-Friendly stations are listed. I've tried to keep a wide berth of possibility here so if you have limited time, stick with the more likely stations like those listed with the formats above.

WOW that's an excellent comprehensive list. Thanks so much for your dedication to this and all the hard work you've put into it.
If we have information for areas or stations within the areas you've listed should we just post them here or pm you with that information?

movin, thank you so much for all of your dedication and for keeping this updated and organized! The list looks great, and I am a big fan of color coding.
There are several Sacramento stations you listed that I had forgotten about. I can't wait to hear Elliott on the radio in my area.
movin2thabeet - March 8, 2007 12:09 AM (GMT)
Thanks! Any suggestions for cities and additional stations can be made either here or PM. As I mentioned, I've listed only the top stations in each area in E-friendly formats - there are many more obviously, but they don't have as big a listenership therefore impact. For example, some public radio stations or college stations might eventually give Elliott some play. I probably won't add those to the list, but posting them on this thread is a good idea. I might be continuing down the list of rated cities as I have time.

Alienhamster, just checked Memphis. It's ranked #49. Urban stations are the dominant top stations there (as you might already know). And so far, those formats haven't been the stations playing E, although that might change over time. Mostly been CHR-P followed by HAC and some AC and CHR-R. Now Movin' On has played on UAC. But we don't really know if they'll be releasing that as a radio single or not.
Ultimately, this list is for all E's upcoming music, now and in the future. So I'll add Memphis to the list when I get a chance. Thanks for the suggestion.

What's up? I'm in Memphis too (Olive Branch area). I sent an email to K97, I haven't gotten a response. But I'm gonna follow up with a phone call. I'm also gonna write FM 100 and WRVR 104.5. I haven't been home in 5 years so I'm not sure about some of the other radio stations, you'll have to update me!
Thanks for your hard work movin :rocker:
I wish E was coming to "Memphis in May". :thud:
