Title: Forum Organization Suggestion
Description: To better reflect Elliott's visibility

movin2thabeet - February 23, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Now that Elliott is establishing himself in the music industry with his first CD about to be released, frequent media appearances and a soon-to-be-announced concert schedule, I feel this board needs to revise it's structure to better accomodate Elliott's new position in the world. We are about to be joined by thousands of new members and this seemingly endless period of waiting is about to be over. We're entering a new period where we get to talk about full songs on actual CDs and concerts and billboards.

I'd like to suggest adding two forums, revising what goes into the News and Updates Forum and creating a thread explaining the changes and how to get the most from this site.

1. TV, Radio Play and Appearances
> All Promotions threads and discussion (including Radio Contact and Tracking)
> All TV and Radio appearances and discussion
I think the Promotions threads are ideal in this location as it is where people will go to find out where they can hear and see Elliott next. It's a great way to connect the various promotional campaigns with the actual results of TV/Radio exposure and play.

2. Concerts
> Schedule and discussion
> Purchasing tickets threads and discussion

3. Add a thread on how best to navigate the site - using the 'View New Posts' link, tracking the topics you want to follow through on, explaining the ideas behind the forum structure and where to find and post with examples.

I think these ideas will enable this site to be more useful to all. As Elliott's career gets underway I think it becomes even more important for us to be able to channel everyone's info and enthusiasm in more accessible ways.

I agree with this idea in general. I think it's better to have the promotional oriented threads in the same space as radio play and appearances. It encourages users to see the results of their promotional efforts and reminds them to write/call radio stations or TV whevever they've heard or seen Elliott in their area.

I'd also like to see an individual thread devoted to chart results alone.

But what would happen to News and Updates, then? One set of materials that's also important is Internet blogs/sites where there are reviews and comments on Elliott. Nancy's thread seems to cover all of that topic, but where should that go?

I guess the division I'd like to see, though it's perhaps impossible to accomplish, is one between the *informative* side of the news/promotional efforts and the *gushing/reactional* side of things. These are both important on this site, no doubt. But it would just be nice to go to one place every day to find out exactly where I might want to post a comment or review or make a phone call on Elliott's behalf, in addition to finding clips of new interviews and such.

A concert section makes sense as an individual forum.

New users should have an advice thread. Heck, this could help current users, too. Ladycentaur didn't even realize we've had a promo subforum for almost a week now!

Given that this site is based on a board structure, discussion comes with the territory. I agree it would be nice for action items to be more clearly found. The idea for a daily newsletter or update could address this need.

I think there will be news items besides those having to do with tv/radio play and appearances. Basically having a News/Updates Forum is confusing since most posts are essentially news or updates. Being more specific about the topics involved can only help better direct people to what they're looking for.

Maybe in addition to adding the two forums I suggested, we could change the name of the News/Updates Forum to News Articles in the Media, which I think was its original intent.

I think the ideal set up would be to make a Promotion Forum that is right beneath the Updates and News forum. In that forum make sub forums for radio information, one for appearances, one for concerts (added when it is relevant) one for charts, and one for general discussion that doesn't fit into any of the other subcategories. By doing this there would only be the need for a couple of pinned topics in each section, thereby putting an end to the premature burying of new topics to the second page as we are currently seeing in the Updates and News forum.

Just let me know where the "gushing/reactional" forum is located. Think I'll spend a lot of time there! :rotfl:

I really really like your suggestion for a daily or even weekly Newsletter! I know for me personally many days I miss the hot news, it gets buried or I look in the wrong place.....keeping the main jist of the new news in a Newsletter is an awesome idea IMO.

I am going to mention this to MC And B ...
