Title: Rss Feeds And Widgets
Description: Anyone interested?

I've been thinking about it, and I think that news is beginning to pick up regarding Elliott's looming Album release and it'd be great if we could have an RSS Feed and/or a Widget that could update with a compilation of hot/popular links and Elliott news?

Why?
What is good about these things is that they're portable and they take up a lot less resources than a forum or site. You could get RSS Feeds on your browser, on your e-mail, heck even on your cell phone. Basically it can allow people to be updated almost anywhere.

What's a Widget/RSS Feed?
If you are familiar with the Mac platform, Widgets are mini-webpage applications that can be seen if you access the dashboard. A Mac comes with a few widgets already installed (i.e. Date/Time widget) They're very cool looking with interesting graphic design. There are also options for Windows users who don't want to miss out, to view widgets. They'd appear on your desktop.

Updates?
I'm not set on when it would update, because it really depends on if I get help or not, but I was thinking the ideal update frequency would be 3 times a week: A Start of the Week Update, A Mid-Week and an End of the Week recap. So basically if there were two other people interested in taking an update slot...this could be pulled off with relative ease.

All one would have to do is keep their eye on places where news or new information is likely to pop up. If they see something that's particularly newsworthy it'll go in the feed.

So what do you think? Good idea or I shouldn't waste my time.

You're talking way over my head, Lene! LOL! But I do understand the basic concept. Things are happening so fast a furious with Elliott now, it would be a good way to keep up with everything.

Oh gosh! I was just thinking the other day if there was a countdown widget available for Elliott's CD release date, and if it had news and updates in it, that would just be awesome!

Love the idea!

Well if the news thing doesn't take off I can always make a quick widget countdown for the heck of it. ;)

To add to a RSS Feed: http://community.livejournal.com/elliott_weekly/data/rss
To add to a Atom Feed: http://community.livejournal.com/elliott_weekly/data/atom

I decided to do things on Livejournal which also allows for RSS/Atom feeds. The entry that's currently up there is probably going to be updated tomorrow as things happen today.

The widget is forthcoming (it's a bit more involved so it'll take a bit longer). If anyone would like to help design it feel free to PM me.

That's great Lene, I added it to my favorites
Thanks
I noticed the tags thing at the bottom. How does this get tagged with other sites or does it? Does it link with other LiveJournal blogs?
Sorry to keep asking stuff but should we join LiveJournal or just check in. I've actually tried to join and have gone through about 15 user names -all of which are taken.

Thanks Kagey and Jo-Jo for your comments :glomp:

The tags are for the journal only, although now that you mention it, it's worth looking into to see if we can get digg or technorati tags.

You don't need to join LJ at all. I don't expect a lot of comments or anything unless people think I should include a link that I missed or something like that. You could use the RSS/Atom links and it'll update itself every time a new edition is posted.

When I get the widget up, that's another way you can keep track of things. As well as Elliott_Weekly, I might go ahead and add a E-train RSS feed and a Google News Elliott feed.

Hi Lene,

We have begun the process of an Elliott "customized" RSS Newsfeed.

If you're interested in being part of the news team, please send me a pm.

I love the widget idea! And the RSS feeds are a no-brainer.

Lene, that site looks fantastic. I will start using LJ again just so I can leave comments and promote it. lol. Great job!
