Oh thank you, I just made it back to this thread. You can see in that picture just how much Ryan cared you know.
^I believe Ryan sincerely likes Elliott and was really fond of Mama Yamin.
I watched the show 4 times last night! What's with the songs? The moment the idols sang One Sweet Day, I started crying. And Mariah's song, Bye-bye, also made me tear up a bit. It's like they were meant for Elliott and Claudette. I also noticed that even though Elliott was smiling, you can see the sadness in his eyes. My heart ached for him.
Here are the lyrics for Bye-bye:
This is for my peoples who just lost somebody Your best friend, your baby, your man or your lady Put your hand way up high We will never say bye (no, no, no) Mammas, daddys, sisters, brothers, friends and cousins This is for my peoples who lost their grandmothers Lift your head to the sky 'Cos we will never say bye
As a child there were them times I didn't get it but you kept me in line I didn't know why you didn't show up some times On Sunday mornings saying I miss you But i'm glad we talked through All them wrongful things seperation brings You never let me know it, you never let it show Because you loved me and obviously Theres so much more left so say If you were with me today face to face
Chorus I never knew I could hurt like this And everyday life goes on like “I wish I could talk to you for awhile” “Miss you but I try not to cry” As time goes by And as soon as you reached a better place Still I’ll give the world to see your face And we were here next to you It feels like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say bye bye
(Bye bye bye bye bye bye) x3
Bye bye
And you never got a chance to see how good I’ve done And you never got to see me back at number one I wish that you were here to celebrate together I wish that we could spend the holidays together I remember when you used to tuck me in at night With the Teddy Bear you gave me that I held so tight I thought you were so strong You'd make it through whatever It’s so hard to accept the fact you’re gone forever
Chorus I never knew I could hurt like this And everyday life goes on like “I wish I could talk to you for awhile” “Miss you but I try not to cry” As time goes by And as soon as you reached a better place Still I’ll give the world to see your face Am standing right here next to you It feels like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say bye bye
(Bye bye bye bye bye bye) x3
This is for my peoples who just lost somebody Your best friend, your baby, your man or your lady Put your hand way up high We will never say bye (no, no, no) Mammas, daddys, sisters, brothers, friends and cousins This is for my peoples who lost their grandmothers Lift your head to the sky 'Cos we will never say bye, bye
Chorus I never knew I could hurt like this (I never knew it) And everyday life goes on like (everyday of my life I wish) “I wish I could talk to you for awhile” (I wish) “Miss you but I try not to cry” As time goes by (I wish, I wish as time goes by) And as soon as you reached a better place Still I’ll give the world to see your face And we were here next to you It feels like you're gone too soon Now the hardest thing to do is say bye bye
(Its hard to say bye bye bye bye bye bye So come on somebody sing it with me Wave your hands up high Hey hey, this if for my peoples who just lost somebody So this is for everybody You put your hand to the sky 'Cos we will never say bye bye)

Nyphadora, I think you're right. It was a total tribute to Claudette and Elliott. Elliott was the best contestant ever on Idol in every single way. Idol producers finally realized that.

I keep noticing new things every time I watch, I think Carly is the first contestant to stand, before Elliott even walks out.
I would love to know if Elliott was singing the last line to someone specific. It sure appears that way. ( I wondered it maybe Jodi was there.)
And, is there anyone else who thinks that Elliott gets choked up when he sings but you better hold on to what you believe ? He also clenches his fist in the air on during that part.
For some reason I felt like he was singing it to Paula because they showed her right after and he appeared to be standing in a spot that allowed that. I could be wrong but it seemed like it to me.
it definitely was in her direction, but I didn't know if someone else was sitting in that general vicinity. It looked very heartfelt, didn't it?
I didn't see anybody else in that vicinity. Cookie's brother and wife were behind Paula. I paused it right when he starts the slow part with Sway there's a shot from behind and he's right in front of Paula. She's standing so it does really appear that who's he's singing to unless it's all of the judges.
Do you think it's possible he was singing to Cook's family? That thought had crossed my mind before I read this thread, but I didn't know if the family was there. Maybe Elliott had a chance to meet them before he performed. I really want to know who he was looking at, because he definitely was singing directly to someone.

That would be just like him, to do that. He met the contestants, so maybe he talked with David or actually met his family.
I love Elliott. I love him.

I had actually thought that as well, like I said they were right behind Paula and I noticed at one point when he was singing, the camera was on Paula and I could see Kendra (Adam's wife) really getting into Elliott's performance. I really loved that moment.
My sister said she wouldn't have been surprised if David C. was the one that wrote on his hand for him. Who knows for sure but it was a nice thought.

I can relate to "the sadness in Elliott's eyes". I also know that everyone goes through the greiving stages in different order and in their own time and way. I have had losses in my life, as well, with one particular loss I had, for 2 years I was in a fog, life was surreal, I looked for my loved one around every corner, seen his face in everyone I met. I had dreams every night that he was still here with me,only to wake up and have to face another day without him. I went through every stage of grief, shock, pain, anger, guilt..all of them. It is hard losing someone, but it hardest learning to go on and live without them. Elliott is really handling it very well. He is a strong man, and this will make him even stronger. Just sayin'.
I thought maybe he was singing to Paula at first, and then maybe to Cooks brother. But if you say they were sitting behind the judges... I just get a strong feeling he was turned to his left. and the judges were directly in front of him. Was Jaime there? or any of his family?
Now I think he was singing to the left because that's where the cameras were and he was told to do so or chose to do so, so he could flash his hand in that direction.

idoletc, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your words touch me so deeply - that's exactly how I felt when my mother died many many years ago. I was a young child when it happened, but the feelings are the same no matter what age you are when you experience a loss, aren't they. I'm so glad Elliott has so many positive things going on in his life right now, to help him get through his pain.

I don't really think the hand thing was a coincidence either. And I wouldn't be surprised if he dedicated that to Adam...judging by the song's meaning it would make sense!

Momster, I am really sorry you lost your mother at a young age. That is so hard on a youngster. I agree, losing anyone is very painful, but I do also believe it makes you more aware of your strengths as time passes. Somedays I swear I would give up all future days for just one day with the one I lost. Eventually, we all lose someone somewhere along the line and I am glad that Elliott has Scott and Jodie and Jamie,,,,and us, of course.

We become strong and we have empathy because we have experienced it and know how difficult it is.

My soul was stirred. It took the voice of Elliott Yamin to wake up my senses and bring me back into the world of music.
